About Me
Early Years
Joshua Levinberg was born in Israel in 1953 and attended “Ohel Shem” High School in Ramat Gan, which is notorious for educating a cache of Israel's highest-achieving and most ingenious entrepreneurs. Levinberg stands in that historical canon and is currently one of the most respected members of the international high-tech community.
Joshua received his B.SC from Tel-Aviv University in electrical engineering and electronics.
Successful Business from the Start
Since the mid 1980s, Levinberg has been involved in the fast growing Israeli hi-tech and telecommunications industries. In 1987, Joshua co-founded Gilat Inc. that designed its own unique “very small aperture terminals,” or VSATs, and supplied them in order to disperse Internet, voice, video, data, and broadband by satellite. Currently, Joshua serves as senior advisor for business development and corporate strategy for the company.
Levinberg was also part of very successful companies such as DSP Group and Spacenet Inc., a Gilat subsidiary, where he served as vice president of marketing, Satlynx S.A, which he co-founded and served as its first Chairman of the Board and Global Village Telecom (GVT), which he also co-founded and was sold to Vivendi for over 4 billion dollars.
JAL Ventures and Current Innovations
In 2003 Joshua Levinberg went on to co-found JAL Ventures with his business partner and brother Amiram Levinberg. JAL Ventures is a revolutionary investment company that recognizes innovation in unique companies, often well before other investors catch on to the trend.
Through JAL Ventures, Joshua was a primary investor in Kasamba, a company that created an online advice platform in a virtual marketplace. LivePerson (NASDQ – LPSN) acquired Kasamba in 2007 for approximately $40M.
