An entrepreneur and sales professional with more than two decades of experience in the automotive industry, Charlie Talisman owns and operates Talisman Suzuki and Talisman Motor City in Houston, Texas. With a lifelong fascination for automobiles, Mr. Talisman nurtured his interests while a young boy, memorizing the make and model of every car on his street. After high school, Charlie Talisman furthered these pursuits as an employee of Houston-based Gullo-Haas Toyota, where he cultivated an early proficiency in the sale of used cars and trucks and consistently ranked among the top 10 percent of producers. Two years later, Mr. Talisman left Gullo-Haas to accept an opportunity with Sterling McCall Toyota and continued to build upon his outstanding sales record with this company.
In 1994, Charlie Talisman joined forces with his brother to launch Talisman Motor City, through which the two sold used automobiles in a humble space near the Southwest Freeway. As a result of their hard work and determination, Mr. Talisman and his brother relocated Talisman Motor City to its present, larger location, where today they supply fellow Houston residents with the finest used and certified pre-owned cars and trucks. By 2006, Charlie Talisman further expanded his business interests to found Talisman Suzuki, a highly regarded Suzuki dealership selling new vehicles at best-in-class prices. In the early 2000s, Marty Kehoe began altering the business model of MK Development LLC from residential development to investment real estate. In 2003, he acquired a 156,000-square-foot shopping center in Lacey, Washington, for $15.3 million, and one year later, Marty Kehoe sold the 24-year-old property to RealNet Investments LLC for $15.6 million. Prior to the purchase, he began liquidating approximately $6 million worth of real estate that his Portland, Oregon, firm owned in Clackamas and Washington Counties, as well as smaller properties in the Multnomah and Seattle areas. These sales marked a new era for MK Development, toward a long-term strategy of real estate investing as opposed to working in the less consistent development and construction industry. Marty Kehoe utilized this approach to better protect his firm from the ever-changing economy and uncertain government regulations.
More than a decade ago, Marty Kehoe established MK Development, putting to use his extensive experience in real estate sales and development and leveraging his knowledge of the Portland housing market. Through MK Development, he began purchasing properties for development and resale, focusing on construction of urban commercial and condominium projects, including shopping centers, hotels, single-family homes, and row houses. Mr. Kehoe’s notable condominium projects include Windsor Place Phases II & III (52 units); Waverly Landing (24 units); Tudor Arms (52 units); and Irving Street Towers (52 units). Single-family home projects developed by Mr. Kehoe include Turner Creek Phases I & II (220 homes); Scholls Meadows (156 detached homes); Summerfield (89 detached homes); and Estates at Parkside (26 detached homes). Throughout his career, he has facilitated more than $500 million worth of construction.
A community advocate and Oregon native, Marty Kehoe loaned the community land from MK Development for a temporary park in Portland on N.W. 22nd Avenue between Pettygrove and Quimby Streets in 2006. Situated on an eighth of a block, the park is named Three Sisters, after Mr. Kehoe’s daughters. With trees, grass, benches, and a picnic table, this modest park is maintained by Marty Kehoe and his family. He hopes this effort inspires fellow real estate developers to pursue similar projects.
